The Whole Hog Cafe BBQ chain originated in Arkansas, and has been pretty well established in SF for about a year. They've just opened an outlet in ABQ just E of Eubank on the S side of Montgomery. The BBQ was fine with good meat and only moderate smokiness, the seven sauces offer something for everyone, the space was pleasant (the old Ragin' Shrimp, but taking better advantage of the mountain views), and the staff was exceptionally interested in customers having a good experience.
ABQ has some good BBQ that's not national chain (Roscoe's, Quarters and Powdrell's - Johndi's - that place that used to be Geezamboni's - is okay but what's with the series of stupid names? And I don't particularly care for Ribs), and some decent national chain places (Rudy's, Dickey's - I'm not really a fan of County Line, tho). This fits into the second category: well worth a visit, but not going to be the best you've ever tasted - I'm happy to have another low-carb choice nearby (I live in the foothills).
