I've gotten some great hot dog info and tips from this site (from both John Fox and Hollyeats.com, thanks guys! Makin my way through Holly's NJ list, and plannin a Philly trip around his site!...)
thought I'd share some info on a great dog I found at the my local super market in Catskill (I'm in NYC M-F and Catskill on the weekends)... the makers are Helmbold's out of Troy NY. Their franks are pork and beef, fully cooked, with natural sheep casing. I picked up a pack of medium sized ones. An interesting size, too big for pigs-in-blankets, too small to fill a bun (they get about 20 in a small package) - but 2 on a bun works great! they cooked up so nice on the grill... popped open after a bit of grillin, all juicy and sizzlin' - with a nice big split down the side, skin got good and crunchy, yum. so nice we had em twice over the weekend. The insides are flavorful - nicely spiced - but mild. Very well ground - no weird stuff inside. and I loved the shape of the dogs - each is unique, like they take the fresh made strings of links and shove them in best they can, but not too concerned with keepin' em pretty. A dam good dog! glad to have the options to add to our stand-by, Nathan's (pickin's up there are slim, they don't have Thumans).
