I was lucky enough to be given the carcass to my mother's turkey yesterday and I'm thinking of trying a recipe I found in a Latina community cookbook someone gave me. It sounds simultaneously interesting and scary, but I've always been intrigued by it. That said, I'm afraid to waste my wonderful turkey carcass on something that isn't great. I can't seem to find anything else about this soup anywhere else, but I'm wondering if anyone has heard of any iteration of it and, if so, is it any good?
It's called Monteria "Holiday Soup" -- basically consists of Water, Turkey bones, tomatoes, onions, peppercorns, whole cloves, garlic, bay leaves, green peppers, cubed smoked ham, potatoes (lots of them -- 10!), parsley, 3 jars pimentos, 1 jar pickled cocktail onions and 6-8 sweet pickles.
Interesting, right? But is it interesting delicious, or interesting, kind of a lot of work and investment and gross or meh?
Let me know what you think. I'll probably bit the bullet tomorrow, but would love to hear from anyone who's ever had anything like it before.
