Healthy vegetarian chinese food (SGV)

Chinese food is known for it's many derivatives in the chowhound site but narry a soul has reported on the locales that almost all local health conscious asian mothers flock to. Healthy food isn't a bad word when you visit these two places.

巧 巧 園 健 康 素 食
Veg Table Restaurant
841 W. Las Tunas Dr.
San Gabriel, CA 91776

Located in the fabulous strip mall next to the Golden Deli. It primarily serves as a takeout but the seating is nice and simple with the usual pink table cloths. As so eloquently noted in the store name, this place is strictly no meat but instead uses the ingenuity of tofu and wheat gluten to replicate your favorite savory dishes. I loved trips to Hsi Lai Temple in Hacienda Heights (Of Al Gore fame) to try their vegetarian dishes, bocaburgers don't hold a candle to these treats. They replicate fish down to the slightly rubbery dark skin and the flaky texture of white fishmeat inside. Admittedly, nothing beats the real thing but if you're hankering for some cheap vegetarian dishes you should stop here. The meals come with your choice of porridge, white rice, brown rice, or steamed/fried buns.

新 天 然 素 食 食 品 廠
Angel's Natural Foods Corp.
11022 Lower Azusa Road
El Monte, CA 91732

I don't know how to properly categorize this. More like a health obsessed deli with dishes that are chock full of nutrients that would make your daily multivitamin look bad. The literal translation of the store is:
Natural vegetarian diet food. Enough said. This place is great to stock up on ready to eat healthy food for those days you just don't want to cook. The store is tiny but full of variety. Pricey for some but cheaper than whole foods. Vegetarian steam buns are great here and they even have a multi grain version. Less on dough, more filling.

I know there are more but these are the ones I frequent. If you want a proper banquet style dining experiences, this place will do:

菜 香 根
Vegetarian Delight Restaurant
140 W. Valley Blvd.
San Gabriel, CA 91776
