I was visiting Eau Claire recently for a conference (I'm a Philly CH) and while on the hunt for some good lunch fare, I walked around and stumbled upon a newish-looking restaurant called the Haymarket Grill. I had the "Shopkeeper's Lunch", which featured a delicate, warm fava bean dip, a piquant tangy hummus, couscous, and a well-made, simple salad featuring a slightly sweet balsamic dressing, romaine, red onions and feta. Fresh ingredients all around, and there was a nice balance of flavors. Chef Kyle even paid my table a visit to inquire how I was enjoying the food, and it was clear he genuinely cared about preparation, presentation, and his guests' enjoyment. A glance at the dinner and dessert menu featured many interesting options of food with what appeared to be non-traditional, American contemporary flair. I could tell that there was a heavy emphasis upon use of fresh ingredients, notably produce. They also have a comprehensive listing of craft beer/ales, chi-chi drinks, and martinis at their spacious bar. I didn't get a chance to go there for dinner, but would definitely give them a second try.
