Over the past couple of months I've found myself enjoying good Mexican food at Mama Raquelle's in Haverstraw, NY (at the corner of New Main and Maple). Because I've been there in the middle of a bike ride I haven't had a full meal. Instead, I've sampled tacos (bistec and carnitas), a burrito, and pozole and all have been very good.
The pozole was unlike any I've tried before. It was a hominy and chicken soup, with lettuce and a sprinkling of ground chili peppers on top. The pozole is part of an expanded weekend menu.
The very friendly owners appear to be from Puebla. I get a warm greeting whenever I walk in the door.
Oddly, there is also an Italian menu which I haven't seen any reason to try.
