Handles (not All Clad)

Yeah, I dislike AC handles and obviously so do lots of other folk, but I want to talk about that most venerated item, the cast iron skillet. They are heavy and they have a four inch handle that sticks straight out. I assume that is because it is an easy thing to cast. I have pretty much abandoned my CI because my carbon steel pans, with their long, sloping, Lyonnaise style handles, are so much easier to maneuver. Could a longer, more sloped handle be cast? Could such a handle be welded or riveted onto CI? Are all of the CI aficionados too loyal to complain? I assume, based on old LC poeles, that there are other ways to grab CI.
