They have arrived. There were just a few flats at the Saturday Portland Farmers Market. When I arrived (late), they were gone except for a few samples my friend Marvin Winters had saved. Marvin said all he brought to sell were gone by 9:30.
If it stops droughting out there for a couple days, and we get some real sun this week (which, frankly, I doubt), the outlook should be better for next weekend.
For those still in the dark, the Hood Strawberry is possibly the best of its kind. Pure strawberry-ulous taste, sweet and juicy (especially with abundant sun), dissolve on the tongue texture. Negatives: they rot within a day or two and their season is only about 4 weeks, if that. The only strawberry I have heard of that may compare favorably is the wild fraise des bois one can find in France. Never tried one, so it is only a rumor to me.
