Best gyro/doner kebab?

Persynna | Jul 8, 2003 01:45 PM

I just had a delicious doner kebab from Istanbul Cafe on 14th St. btw 8th/9th. Tender, crispy edged, moist, falling-apart lamb.

However, it lacked the garlicky edge often provided by a thick yogurt sauce that you sometimes can get (is that sauce in fact tzatziki?). There was some kind of yogurt sauce on this, but it wasn't what I've had at other places, particularly in the odd little family-run Greek fast food place I went to in my youth. Now, I'm not sure if tzatziki is even part of the Turkish version of this sandwich, but in any case, I crave it. So -- can anyone recommend a gyro or doner kebab that has it all?
