Finally managed to make it to one of the the three Guu's here in Vancouver and it's all true!
Great food, great service and a very fulfilling time.
We ended up at the 'new Guu' in Gastown (375 Water Street upstairs) and at first it was a somewhat bewildering experience-louds shouts filled the air as we ascended the stairs into what seemed to be a relatively empty space.
But the shouts were really greetings/incoming kitchen orders and even three 'older' people soon settled into the warm busy atmosphere.
My 2 friends are experienced diners but relatively tame when confronted with what to them were totally new Japanese dishes but they both ordered plates that to them were completely novel but tasty, filling and excellent value.
Being famished I ordered the first 4 plates that caught my eye-Spicy Noodles with Cod Roe, cooked Spinach done 3 ways, Salmon Belly on rice and something else I'm too far gone to remember-all first rate.
I also had a Shrimp Pie-'Ebi something' after the one my friend had turned out to be ambrosial.
If you haven't been yet don't delay!!!
