Gringo Chinese in the SGV?

David Ford | Nov 1, 2003 06:32 PM

I love good Chinese food, but have much simpler tastes than many of my fellow Chowhounds. Maybe some day I will expand my set of preferences, but of yet here are (more or less) the only things that I order when dining Chinese:

almond chicken
mongolian beef
beef with broccoli
sweet and sour pork
mushu pork
won ton soup
egg drop soup

I live in Huntington Beach. And, while we have a pretty good selection of Chinese restaurants with these items on the menu locally, I would like to expand outward and sample some others in new areas. Specifically, I would like to experience the best of what the San Gabriel Valley has to offer in this category. This is especially true since I have seen so many posts concerning the great quality and variety of Chinese cuisine in this region.

Here is my problem. Whenever I see a reference to a SGV Chinese restaurant, I read on eagerly hoping to find a good Chinese restaurant to try when venturing northward for one of my dinner and movie adventures. Each time, however, each time I am disappointed to find no descriptions of any of the above items as house specialties. Many times, they are not even offered on the menu!

All I want is to sample the very best almond chicken the San Gabriel Valley has to offer. Surely this will not be too difficult. Please help me!

Thanks,
David
