Great mail-order marshmallows and whoopie pies

I haven’t posted in ages, but have come across two mail-order goodies worth passing along - Plush Puffs homemade marshmallows and whoopie pies from Isamax snacks.

My 10-year-old niece, my mother and I had a marshmallow tasting party with the Plush Puffs and we are swooning over these. I wouldn’t say I am a marshmallow fan, as I usually like candy with a little more heft, but I read about these on Candyblog.com and they sounded special, so I ordered a few flavors to try. We had maple pecan, chocolate chocolate chip, caramel swirl, vanilla bean, toasted coconut and cinnamon. All of the flavors are creamy yet at the same time chewy enough to make them satisfying, and a few of the flavors are really knock-your-socks-off good. The chocolate chocolate chip (lush) and maple pecan (with pecan pieces on top), in particular. The cinnamon was not so great, but my niece was looking forward to trying one in her hot cocoa. Her favorite was the caramel. (these have caramel swirled into the marshmallow.) Per their website’s recommendation, we toasted a few – that’s where they really shine. Our second order is already in.

Today the whoopie pies arrived. My niece hasn’t weighed in on these yet, but for me, one word: yummy. I have an intense sweet tooth, and these are achingly sweet, which from my perspective is a good thing, to others maybe not. The cake is moist and chocolatey, the filling sweet and light. I also tried the peanut butter and chocolate chip flavors which are good, but not as delicious as the original chocolate. These would make a fun gift for a real sweets fan. They are shipped in a standard white box, but the inside packaging is festive.
