Hi, Chicago 'hounds! Toronto chowhound here... I will be in Chicago every other week on business for the rest of the year and will be staying at Hotel 71 near Wacker and Michigan (which is much better than the chow wasteland I was staying at near Clark and Adams). I know that there is a major concentration of restaurants around State and Hubbard, but would appreciate some help in weeding out the dull, pretentious and/or over-priced.
I won't have a car, and would prefer walking distance, but am more than happy to cab it for good food and good service (Avec is my current favorite).
I would love to get some recommendations from everyone. Yes, I'm on an expense account, but no, I don't want to break the bank on every dinner (I would never do that to my clients). So anything from a little taqueria tucked away somewhere to a fab dinner at Blackbird would be appreciated. I love all types of food, so there are no restrictions. Also, places where a single diner will not be frowned up would be nice. Great carry out is always an option, too.
Since I'll obviously have many opportunities to eat, the more suggestions the better. I promise to try as many as possible. Thanks in advance for your help!
