If you haven't already found the place, I think you all deserve to know about, IMHO, the best sandwich, (and more) shop in West Sacramento, Grand Central Station. I would go as far as to say that GCS, IMHO, probably has the best deli sandwiches in the greater Sac. area.
Before Tower sent me here to Tokyo, I worked at Tower Records main office, in West Sac. GCS is right around the corner from us, and once I found them, I was a regular, (as are many of our emps. at the M.O.)!
I've tried so many of their sandwiches, that it is hard to peg a "best". My faves, though, are the roast beef, the Philly cheesesteak (not cheez-whiz genuine, but wonderful in it's own right, and the Grand Central Special [you gotta see the menu for the description of this one!]). They have quite an extensive sandwich menu, with, I think, over 30 sandwiches to choose from.
Their hot wings (mild, medium, hot, suicide) are so popular, that before a big sporting event, you should place your order a day in advance.
The place is owned by an East Coaster named Mike. And he makes sure that his offerings skimp on neither quality, or quantity. If you ask for the roast beef sub, rare, he'll come right out and tell you that "the roast beef we got today won't satisfy you. Want something else"?
If you are thinking about this place for lunch, PLEASE,
get a hold of a menu before hand, and call in your order. Either drive by the place to get a menu, or ask them to fax one to you. If you just drop by during the time of 11:30-1:00pm, you'll be waiting 20-40 minutes for your order, (they aren't slow, just that good).
