Just wanted to put in a good word for the B&H "vegetarian" on 2nd Ave in the EV. I haven't been there in years, but popped in with my
Shiksa Goddess ex-wife on a whim and her jones for vegetable soup and grilled cheese. Man, was it good. We were thrilled that this ever-present stand-by has maintained it's quality and scruffy charm. My tuna salad sandwich was fab: the challah was thick and fresh and the filling pleasantly moist yet not bloated with mayo. My cucumber dill soup was just right. Likewise her soup and sammy, the latter also on the challah, perfectly grilled, melty not greasy. Everything was big and filling and it all came to maybe 12 smackers.
Not that there's room for you (same counter and handful of tiny tables for two), but let's not forget about this reliable Dairy and the unique 20th Century New York Jewish-American culture it represents. I'll be back soon for breakfast to see how the Matzoh Brei compares to mom's.
