Good midtown lunch spot, cheap tortas & tamales

stumbled on this place last month, have had several good orders, so thought I'd throw up...

Mi Ranchito - small & friendly Mexican deli on 8th Ave between 38 & 39, fast delivery. Great tortas (sandwiches), very good and tender pernil (roast pork), and good tamales.

Their tortas have been the stand out for me... my favorite is the Pernil with "the works" - it's served on a nice big Portuguese roll that is toasted on the grill to a golden brown on the inside and then spread with mayo and avocado, stacked with tender roast pork, a little cheese, piled with lettuce, tomato, and a couple pickled jalapeno peppers and then press-grilled on the outside. an excellent sandwich. a bargain at $3.95.

their tamales (listed under the breakfast items) are good, fresh and moist, and have a simple homey corn flavor. fillings change so check to see what they have. today's had a little chicken, stewed tomato, pepper mix inside. they are the white masa kind (my favorite type). Not great, but definitely decent and a nice side with the sandwich for $1.25 (they're pretty big in size too.)

btw - the one time I ordered their Cuban sandwich I was disappointed. It arrived soggy and the pickles were tasteless. kinda surprising since their tortas are so good.
