North Berkeley's Gourmet Ghetto is hosting the annual Spice of Life Festival this Sunday. What sets this festival apart from the mediocre "tchotchky fairs" held weekly in Berkeley is the food demo stage; local chefs do a cooking demo and hand out samples. This year's schedule includes chefs from Bendean and Sea Salt, among others. I attended last year, and the samples were quite generous considering that the event is completely free. The stage is open from 11am to 6pm and each demo lasts about an hour. Not a destination, but if you're living in the area and have a free day it's worth a visit. Schedule of events is linked below.
