New to being single in NYC | Jan 2, 2006 09:49 PM

So I'm relatively new to being single in NYC (I moved here with a significant other who's, um, not so significant any more?)

Anyway, dating in NYC is a different scene than I'm used to. I come from a car-based city where you pick up your date in a car, drive to whatever restaurant you want, and then drive her home.

Here, it's a big game of geography: Where's her office? Where's her apartment? Where's your apartment?

I've decided that on the 2nd or 3rd date, if you want anything resembling a proper kiss good night (that may lead to more), it's *key* to choose a restaurant near her apartment -- that way a walk to her door can turn into... something. Otherwise you get into this massively awkward situation standing outside the cab or subway about who's going where, when.

Anyway, to cut to the chase, I have a date this weekend with a woman who lives on the Upper West Side (74th & Broadway I think?). I need a good place to take her.

I know of Celeste and Gennero. Both excellent, but neither take reservations and you can't linger -- too many people waiting.

Cafe Luxembourg is fine, but too noisy.

Calle Ocho is an option I suppose.

Ouest seems a little over-the-top for a 3rd date.

I've been told about 'Cesca and Les Routiers but have never been to either.

What am I missing? Haven't a bunch of good new places opened up on the UWS recently?

Help me out Chowhounds, what am I missing?!?
