Tried Gavroche (14th between 7th and 8th) for a Sunday date night since Crispo was being obnoxious about placing me on hold. It was a very satisfying bistro dinner in a surprisingly cozy outdoor space.
The back garden has a few trees and a fountiain. But it's a larger space then expected. However, they sat us by the wall underneath a little bush-like tree and it was really sweet!
To start, we had the tomato tart and charcuterie planche. The tomato tart was extra sweet and tart with super light buttery pastry. The charcuterie planche 1-person portion was HUGE with lots of garnishes ... but meat was only ok - duck terrine was the best thing.
I had a mashed potato crusted sea bass in a red wine reduction. The sauce was a bit thick, but the spinach underneath the fish was buttery and fresh. So good. My boyfriend had a special ginger
Dessert was lovely (but unmemorable - or was i too full or tipsy?). The Amuse Bouche were plentiful, but a little dry.
My boyfriend and I debated whether to post this on chowhound because we plan on coming back soon! However, the restaurant was pretty empty on Sunday night - only 2 other tables of 2. We don't want Gavroche to go out of business just when we've discovered a new bistro around the corner ... so please check it out and report back!
