friday night dinners at the Wenham Teahouse...

I've posted before about going to the Wenham Teahouse (rte 1A, exit 20N off rte 128; luncheon bet 11:30am-2pm; tea 3:15-4:30; and now fri night dinners 6-9pm; closed sun & holidays, some special events- 978-468-1398) for tea (lovely, not tea from loose tea but help yourself to boiling water, asst of good teabags, coffee hot and cold and iced tea w/ accoutrements; excellent scones served w/ jam and clotted cream; tea sandwiches; french toast sticks and other great sweet sundries) and luncheon (a lovely "ladies" style luncheon- you can do buffet inc. chicken croquettes, and cold salmon w/ cucumber sauce that type of thing or ala carte- club sandwiches and fare like that) but last October they began Friday night dinners- I still haven't gone but look very forward to going, dinners had began as an experiment and I just came upon their card tonight and called to see if the experiment "took" and apparantly it has. I bet that it is similar to luncheon but perhaps, they also add some "Yankee-type cuisine"- potroast, Indian pudding,- the house is amazing- the Teahouse began in the turn of the last century to serve the "ladies" who lived on the surrounding estates- as a way to forge community and society. A rather gruff male friend of ours once exclaimed when we took him for tea that "it is the only place where a grown man can say that the fare is delightful"- it truly is delightful. The Victorian sprawling farmhouse type house is on absolutely lovely grounds: beautifully landscaped w/ I believe a playground on the hill that it is on. It is located on th town square w/ a thriftstore (that is/was also run by the local estate women) and a doll museum-( which is closed on mondays). Please any chow that tries post about- I have a good feeling but you never know...
