Franky's = Disaster

Went into Franky's for dinner last night. It looks so charming from the outside. We were sat at a table coverred with crumbs. The waitress tried to set it without cleaning - we had to point out the mess. The menu is pretty much an exact rip off of Paninoteca, which is not very nice. Okay... After making choices we were told that they were out of one of the two entrees. Then they were out of an eggplant appetizer. It would have been nice to be told before we ordered. The food was barely okay. Their concept is to make sandwiches on Sullivan Street Bakery pizza. So a piece of floppy tomato pizza was used as bread - not very appealing. The cheese bread was nicer - but the escarole sandwich was nothing but overdressed raw escarole. Basically a bad salad sandwich. The cheeses didn't seem to have been stored very carefully - dry, dry, dry. Meanwhile we watched some manager bully the waitresses throughout our meal. Then our entree never came. Then we cancelled it. Then the check came with it still included. Then they got an attitude about removing it. Never "I'm sorry." All in all a complete mess on every level. They do have a backyard, which manages to look like downtown Falluja. Then, as the final insult, as we left we discovered that the waitress had given us the wrong menu - we had the lucch menu! Not that it would have made much of a difference. As Dionne Warwick sang - "walk on by."
