my spouse and i stopped in FRANK for early brunch. great chicken and blt sandwiches on nice chewy italian bread rolls. lots of arugula and spinach on the side. i think my blt was the winner. a slightly spicy mayo really made it hum. we had a little wine with it. my spouse's barbera was fruitier and tastier than my heavy rather tastless trentino region red.
later on the day's weather took a cold dive so just after 5:00pm we ducked into OTTO for early dinner. we sat at th bar where half the seats were open, but when we left the place was jam packed. so we had some wine, the anchovy, beadcrumb and scallion app ($8) and the prosciutto arugula w/ tom, cacio, mozz, crudo, arugula ($13). i had stopped in OTTO about 3wks ago and had the exact same pizza and so we ordered it again so i could do some comparison.
results are consistant. the crust continues to be a serious problem, it's undercooked and terrible. and its not like any i've experienced in the past in rome. shame as the toppings are very good. so a continued caveat emptor on the pies or at least that choice.
the anchovy app was outstanding, very tasty. scallions and crunchy breadcrumbs are a great foil to the pickled fish.
also had an amaro digestif that was real thick and nice. beware its cough syrupy tasting if your wondering, not to everyone's taste. however, i want to do some more amaro comparison and go thru the large list of these this winter!
