Loved my visit to the Saturday morning farmers market in Vista two weeks ago. The most interesting find turned out to be the Kyoho grapes grown in Temecula by Frank and Anna Farms. The Japanese man at the booth said that he’d just started harvesting them the week before and that he also sells at the Ocean Beach farmers market.
Treated like jewels, the precious clusters were swaddled in tissue paper. Quite sweet with flavor like a Concord but seedless and thinner-skinned.
I’ve enjoyed imported Kyoho grapes purchased at Japanese and Korean supermarkets before. These were darker in color, sweeter, and seemed riper. All that you’d expect from a locally grown product.
