The trouble with naming your restaurant after your street address (particularly common in Manhattan Chinatown) is that if you move you have to change the name of your restaurant. (Not entirely true-- that's why Sunshine 27 is at 40 Bowery). Nevertheless, Dumpling 10053 (which has its roots in Manhattan Chinatown) has moved away from 10053 Valley Blvd. to unit #149 at Atlantic Times Square in Monterey Park, and has adopted the moniker Fortune Dumpling. Frankly I pretty much stopped going to Dumpling 10053 after the opening of new and better contenders like Qingdao, Mama's Lu, Kingburg and others except for an occasional order of scallop dumplings. I did recognize a number of old favorites at Fortune Dumplings including both cod and sole dumplings, pork with sea cucumber dumplings and shrimp pumpkin dumplings. However the scallop dumplings are gone. Something interesting was the chicken with wolfberry dumplings in a maroon dumpling wrapper containing beet flour. Very visual and also very good. Still wish I could find plain chicken dumplings somewhere in the SGV. (Awesome Eatery has chicken and mushrooms dumplings--yuck.) Guess I have to settle for George's House in Inglewood for now. Fortune Dumplings fronts right on Atlantic Blvd., towards the north end of the shopping center.
