Flying and eating on Air India

I *almost* got to fly with this airline from New York to London. But my flight couldn't be confirmed. In the process of making the reservation we were given meal choices though, that had me salivating. I wasn't quick enough to note all of the meal types but there were LOTS. I opted for pure vegetarian. But there was lacto-vegetarian, Asian vegetarian, seafood platter, fruit platter, no-gluten, and a few others for religious observance.

Two non-food asides: They asked for "smoking or non-smoking.

And, I found this good fare on Cheaptickets.com. When the reservation couldn't be confirmed, I was invited by email to call for alternative arrangements. I got an even better fare, on Continental, that wasn't listed on the website.
Phone # 1-888-922-8849, with a fairly long wait to speak to a reservationist.
