Was back in Flushing last week, but recovering from a stomach bug and couldn't make myself sit down for a meal. Tried to find the hole in the wall that someone had mentioned on the board, with fresh buns and dumplings. Finally stopped at a stall (on 41st) for a steamed pork bun and a sesame ball with red beans. Both good, although I was expecting shredded roast pork, instead of ground pork with spices. The sesame ball weighed a ton and was a sweet gooey mess of yum.
Went back to Flushing again today and returned to Spicy and Tasty (where I had bland pork and dan dan noodles last time).
Had the mapo tofu lunch special. It was awesome! Deep red, spicy sauce with fresh tofu, ground pork and scallions. The locals at the place all went to the steam table at front and ordered from there. A nice waiter helped me out with identification- I pointed to food, he pointed to corresponding name on the menu. Need a more adventure eater to help me with tendon, tripe, etc. Still a novice.
Once disclaimer- my dining companion had a nasty little bug floating in her soup. Didn't deter me one bit.
