Flaky Egg Custard Tarts at Wa Li Bakery/SF Chinatown

the other day I was in Chinatown and looking for some baked pork buns ..... they were all sold out of them at You's so I walked around and came across Wa Li on 1249 Stockton St. - and noticed how flaky the pastry in the egg custard tarts looked. I tried one and was delighted to bite into a very crispy, flaky crust with a good amount of egg custard that had a few browned spots on top ( not as much as a Portugese custard one ) it was a great balance between the moist richness of the custard and the flaky texture of the crust. No lines. around a dollar I think. I also tried one of the baked pork buns ......very soft mildly sweet bread and a good amount of filling with some large dice of onions - but the texture of the filling was a bit thick for my taste. Definitely will be going back for the egg tarts though !
