Fish in Inner Richmond

Mark | Mar 13, 200405:20 PM

I've heard many times people say that you should buy fish from fishmongers that are very clean -- implying in part the absence of strong fishy smells in their shops. I took a tour of the fish shops on Clement Street the other day and noticed that without exception, they all had an overwhelmingly strong fish smell the second you walked inside. In some cases it was actually pretty nauseating. But the shops were pretty crowded and the shops seemed pretty reputable.

So my question is: where's the best place to buy fresh fish and seafood in SF? Are the Asian markets up to par with (or better than ) Andronicos and other upscale supermarkets that charge a huge markup for their offerings? Are there any places in particular you like to go for the freshest fish and seafood?
