How come I can't find steamers in LA?

I'm from CT, and growing up my dad and I would always split an appetizer of steamers at restaurants.

Yes, their steamed clams but I'm not sure which kind exactly--they're small and have a little black foot you have to peel off. You dip em in water and then butter.

A summer tradition I miss. Along with apple cider in the Fall and school lunch sandwiches made on Portuguese bread.
