Fifty restaurant in West Village - great customer reviews but no critics

poutinenyc | Sep 25, 201709:26 AM     8

I'm arranging a dinner for 12 people next weekend and one restaurant that popped up is Fifty ( www.fiftyrestaurantnyc.com ) in the West Village. It looks quite good from pictures and sample menus and has solid customer reviews (Yelp: 4.5 stars from 83 reviews; Opentable 4.5 stars from 198 reviews). What concerns me is that I can't find a single critic's review. Across NY Times, NY magazine and all the other usual sources, the only mentions are a few announcements from when it opened last year. I would like to trust the combined opinions of nearly 300 customers more than 1 or 2 critics, but it sill seems odd that not a single one has reviewed the place - it's been open more than a year now and from the opening notices and number of customer reviews, feels like it should be reasonably high profile. Should I be worried about this? Has this pattern been observed on other restaurants and is there any reason why it occurs. Has anyone on here eaten at Fifty and could back up the Yelp / Open Table high ratings? Thanks!
