There's been lots of coverage these days about how screwed up our food systems are. But it's not all that easy to get a full picture of how we got here, why we haven't changed the fundamentals and what we can realistically do to move forward.
The American Institute of Wine & Food is co-hosting an event at the Garden that fills in the missing pieces. The day-long symposium considers our agricultural choices from the perspectives of nutrition, legislation, economics, the environment and community development. It's a great line-up of national speakers as well as some local folks who have been at the forefront of the issues. Bill Kurtis will be talking about the region's history and geographical influences and Gale Gand and Bruce Sherman will be doing cooking demos.
