I bought a Gaggia Classic today. It appeared absolutely brand new, in its original packaging - the perforated tabs on the box had not been opened.
After priming it through the wand and the group head, I also ran some water through the portafilter.
When I removed the portafilter I found a very small residue (less than a pinch) of what looked like coffee grounds in the filter. Wiping the group head/gasket also yielded the same black, grainy substance (I haven't tasted it).
I am more puzzled than disturbed. Any ideas on what gives? Do the people at Gaggia pre-test every machine (or random machines) with real grounds (and forget to clean properly)?
