My husband and I stopped in last night to check out Rendezvous in Central Square. It was great!
Before eating there, my impression was that it seemed nice but I didn't see myself paying the extra $$ rather than just going to local favorite Central Kitchen. But the food is just a bit more refined, the atmosphere a bit more formal, etc. (That's not a knock on Central Kitchen in the least, BTW. We'll definitely continue going there too -- we'll just eat out more often now!)
We sat at the bar and shared two apps -- gnocchi w/oxtail, autumn vegetable antipasto, and the hangar steak. Gnocchi melted in your mouth, and antipasto plate had great variety w/a nice eggplant sauce. The steak was cooked perfectly, very flavorful on its own, and nicely complimented by the parsnip puree, a parsley salad and flavorful sauce.
We also enjoyed a bottle of wine recommended by the bartender, and were out of there for under $70 before tip. Plenty full too!
It was nice to see that it was hopping, too, since it's been pretty slow to get going. I'd encourage people to check it out.
