Encounter at LAX

I know I keep pimping this place. I swear I am not a shill. I just keep having a ball there and the food, while not gourmet cuisine, is tasty and satisfying. Take out-of-towners, a fun date, or even some kids.

A lot of thought and expense was put into the trippy decor - from the moment the doors of the tiny elevator door close and you are enveloped in a purple glow you know this ain't your ordinary restaurant. Then the theme music, which lasts exactly as long as your elevator trip, begins like something from Star Trek.

5 of us went last night. Drinks at the bar, watching the beautiful string of lights from the jets lined up to land...ate some dry but wonderfully potato-y fries. Good service at the bar.

We had carrot ginger bisque and pear-endive-blue cheese salads for openers, both good, the salads $10 and huuuuge - one was easily enough for 2 people. The salads had a lovely peppercorn dressing and a few glazed pecans sprinkled throughout, as well as huge chunks of blue cheese and lots of pears...very tasty, nice flavor combo.

The boys all ordered steaks, which came with mashed potatoes and broccolini. They all loved it, pronounced the broccolini excellent.

I got wild mushroom ravioli in a thick cream sauce, a little salty but lots of mushrooms in the sauce.

Service was really, really good. The total was $195 for the 5 of us, and that included 5 drinks at the bar plus non-alchoholic beverages for dinner.
