The Emperor's New Clothes?

Ruth Lafler | Jul 11, 200305:11 PM     22

When I was at the Cowgirl Creamery shop at the Ferry Plaza Markethall (great, BTW), I bought some Cowgirl Creamery St. Pat (a nettle wrapped semi-soft cows' milk cheese).

It's ... okay -- certainly nothing I'd ever spend $18/pound for again. And then I started thinking, have I ever had a Cowgirl Creamery cheese that I even liked enough to buy again, let alone loved? And the answer was "no."

Is it just me? Or is anyone else underwhelmed by their cheese? Have we just bought into the philosophy that if it's local, seasonal and artisanal it must be great?

We had this discussion about Miette, are there any other local producers that you're quietly wondering what the fuss is all about?
