Lately, we've been obsessed with the elotes at La Lupe Taqueria lately (Greenpoint Ave. near 44th St). Grilled (practically charred) ears of fresh corn, slathered with mayonnaise and sprinkled with some kind of salty grated Mexican cheese. It's served alongside small bowls of cayenne pepper and Mexican oregano. I can't even say the word Elote these days without saliva dribbling down my chin.
They also have excellent tacos, including brain. Last time I was there, the brains were perfectly fried, light, custardy puffs of brainy goodness. Their tripa tacos are wonderful too. Crunchy and earthy-tasting, but without the 'gut' flavor that often mars my tripe-eating experiences. Their non-offal tacos are super too.
