Ellicottville Holiday House and Whole Hog Company

I simply had to post this message and pass on my experience at the Holiday House and Whole Hog company on Route 219 in Ellicottville, NY. About an hour south of Buffalo.

Amazing. Their food is excellent, and includes a soup and salad bar with two wonderful homemade dressings. They often have mussels, in white wine and garlic, included in the price of the meal. Every Saturday, they roast a whole pig. It is served with a homemade dressing, potatoes and the above mentioned salad bar. They also serve steak and seafood, and another member of our group has had the seafood and pronounced it excellent. The menu is a standard menu, and also includes crab cakes, but since I've never had them, I can't say much other than to say they looked good.

The pork was moist and flavorful, and the serving was huge. The place is rustic, clean, filled with antiques and has music on some weekends. I was a bit dubious when someone told me about this family run place, so finally, I decided to try it. They don't seem to advertise, and lots of people find it by mistake as they drive by and see the advertising board in front of the place. It was a mix of local people, weekenders who eat there as a group, and people like me who just want a good meal in an out of the way place.

It is run by family members, and they are friendly and accomodating. The Elvis impersonator who performed the night we were there was actually very good.

I owe this board a recommendation now and then. The other chowhounds have led me to similar places and a happy stomach.

Happy eats!
