So I didn't get any responses to my inquiry for good lunch joints in Elk River/Otsego... I didn't let that stop me. I tried the Diamond City Bread Company in downtown Elk River. It was a tiny (I think three tables?) bread bakery that also makes sandwiches (but you have to ask - that's not posted anywhere). I tried a turkey sandwich on blue cheese foccacia. The foccacia had a great almost buiscuity texture, but I didn't really detect any blue cheese flavor (boo-hoo, that was so exciting a prospect). The lettuce was shredded (plain old boo). The meat was fine - nothing special, but also not nasty. I'd say the sandwich was better than average, but marginally so.
For dessert had an oatmeal pecan chocolate chip cookie. I was so glad that's what they had, because I love oatmeal pecan chocolate chip cookies! It's my favorite combination. Although there was room for improvement, the cookie scored high marks with me with its chewy texture and good flavor. I did wish it had been a little chunkier - I was looking forward to big chunks of pecans and instead it seemed like the pecans had been through a coarse grinder.
Anyway, if you're in downtown Elk River, I'd recommend checking it out, but I wouldn't say it's worth a trip there just for this place.
I also purchased a cranberry pecan loaf. If it's worth writing about, I'll post a follow-up. In case someone else needs info on this area some time in the future.
