Eli's Apple Crumb muffins: I stand corrected

More than once I have dissed Eli's muffins on these boards as being dry and tasteless - and a lot of them are - but on a recent visit to Eli's on 80th, during my ritual perusal of the upstairs pastry/bread/cookie area on my way to the cash registers, I discovered a new treat.

I like "crumb" anything cake, pie, muffin - so when I spied this crumb topped muffin drizzled with caramel I inquired as to what else was in it. Apricot, the woman working there said. (or so I thought) I don't really love apricots, but I figured cooked apricots and caramel how bad could it be? I bought the last two.

Well, much to my delight it was apple, not apricot and are these muffins good. Much different than most of their muffins, these are moist throughout with well cooked apples underneath a crunchy crumb topping. It doesn't really need the drizzle of caramel, but I am not complaining. Unfortunately, they are not always available by the time I get there. (I seem to end up at Eli's at night)

Now if I could convince them to make a blueberry crumb muffin just like this. [g]
