Had a Sunday breakfast at El Toro Loco in Pacifica. They bill themselves as a Mexican-Peruvian restaurant.
I had huevos rancheros, which were unlike any others I have had in California or Mexico. Just two fried eggs on two corn tortillas, and smothered in this light orange colored "Ranchera" sauce. No chunks of tomatoes, peppers, onions or other vegetables. A bit of a disappointment, really, but the Ranchera sauce was incredibly delicious -- seemed to have a strong chicken broth in it, and was cooked a long time because the pepper hotness was very muted.
Anyone had huevos rancheros like this? I wonder if this is a Peruvian version.
Also had the Peruvian coffee (dark and strong) and the Peruvian potatoes, which were quite firm and rather good.
