El Toro and Anna's Danish Cookies, Mission, SF

Limster | Jun 8, 200206:32 PM

Had two tacos at El Toro: lengua (tongue) and al pastor (marinated pork). Not bad, but a notch down from El Farolito/CanCun in my book. The al pastor had ok flavor but could have been richer and with more depth. Lengua was slightly better in the scheme of lengua, pieces were tender; would have loved it with more cilantro.

Anna's Danish cookies was certainly worth all the raves. See Syre's below for a rhapsodic rendition that is absolutely true. Had all 5 danish varieties with and without the chocolate robe (ok - I mean all 10). It was a hot day, a the rich robe of good chocolate was starting to get nice and gooey... I'm a purist at heart, and thus my favorite was the butter version -- not too sweet, and not too forward with heavyness, but rich and full flavored all the same. It gives off a great snap, sudden and earthshaking that is very satisfying in a tactile way.
