El Porteño's Alfajor

Saturday I stopped by the bake sale fundraiser on the sidewalk outside La Victoria Bakery in the Mission and bought quite a few things. Most of my selection were one-time, homebaked goods for this sale. But one item that you might run across again is El Porteno's alfajor. Priced at $2, this was one of the biggest alfajores out there. While the thickish cookie layers won't win any beauty contests, once I took a bite into the tender crumb, it was clear that the girth was needed to give the short dough a chance of survival. Not quite up to Sabores del Sur (from La Cocina), my current fave, but I'd happily buy this again.
