Eating in Mexico City (and Oaxaca) during the Christmas Holidays

montrealparisnyc | Nov 28, 201410:55 PM     29

I am looking forward to eating my way through Mexico City from Dec. 28 to Jan. 4. To my dismay, however, I have just discovered that many restaurants will be closed during this period.

We are enthusiastic, adventurous eaters looking to experience as many facets of Mexican food as we can, from the ancient and traditional to the modern and avant-garde.

Does anyone (Cristina?) know which Chowhound-recommended restaurants will remain open and which ones I should stop salivating over?

Will it be business as usual for street food and market stalls, or should we expect to find some of those closed as well? And the bakeries...?

Thinking positively: Are there any foods that are specifically associated with Christmas/New Years that we should seize the opportunity to indulge in?

And lastly: Am I wrong to assume that in Oaxaca, where Christmas is considered to be high tourist season, the restaurants will be open (other than on Christmas day, the day of our arrival)?

Thank you so much!
