East Bay Persian Ice Cream/Restaurants?

Cyrus J. Farivar | Dec 19, 2001 01:06 PM

As a displaced Persian (ok, I'm really only half Persian), I often miss the abundance of Persian food and culture in Los Angeles. One thing that I really miss is Persian Ice Cream...on my latest trip down to LA, I had to resort on bringing some back up with me and packing it in a cooler. Anyone know of anywhere to find it in the East Bay? (Ideally Berkeley/Oakland/E'ville) For those that haven't experienced it, I highly highly recommend it. Persian ice cream usually comes in one of two flavors. First, called "faloodeh", is made with rosewater and has small noodle-like things mixed in. It has a slushy texture. It's usually eaten with lime juice...it's very refreshing. The other one, which I don't think has a proper name, has a very creamy pistachio flavor to it. The best part of it is the chunks of cream balls (think something like Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough) interspersed throughout. :) Anyone who has any bright ideas on where to find it up here...I'd be much obliged. Also, any East Bay Persian restaurants, I'd be interested in finding out about also...kha'hesh mikonam.
