Recently I've noticed that La Farine (College Ave.) hasn't been churning out the high-quality breads I once so loved. I tried -- on three separate occasions --
sweet baguette (good flavor and crust, but the inside was dense and foamy, not featherlight and spun with air as I remember)
kalamata olive petit pain (this used to be my favorite and I'd buy it twice a week, but the sourdough flavor seemed a little intense last time, and again, dense texture inside)
plain petit pain (intensely sour, almost chlorinated)
Has anyone else noticed this, too? On another note, I also went to Naan'n'Curry on Telegraph Ave. on Friday. The naan wasn't fresh (I could see a stack of pre-made naan behind the counter) -- and as far as I'm concerned, if I can't get fresh naan, I'm no longer interested. The chicken tikka kebab was reliable as usual, although there was a higher percentage of onion/tomato to meat than usual, and the palak paneer was just "okay." There used to be a time when I considered Naan'n'Curry a best buy, and the only place I'd consider eating on Telegraph -- again, the fresh naan -- but now I've lost faith. Any recommendations for replacements?
