Greetings fellow hounds!
I have a "fourth date" this Tuesday evening in the Elmwood Park area. She'll be meeting me after class for the late dinner hour, so we'll be eating light. I know the city dining scene quite well, but my knowledge of the suburban dining & bar scene is pretty limited. I'm looking for a fun casual place for drinks and appetizers preferrably in the bar area of a restaurant or at a bar & grill with above average food. No Asian or French and we'll save the tapas for another date. How is Poor Phils for live tunes? A margarita accompanied by some fresh made quac could be fun, any recs for Mexican? I'm open to your suggestions.
Here's the scoop with the first three dates. The first was at Enoteca Roma Wine Bar in Wicker Park, the second date at Fitzgeralds in Berwyn on Sunday for Big Band night/a Glen Miller Big Band type of experience (her first time seeing big band live...it was sooo cool!), and finally, a homecooked Spanish meal (she lived and studied in Madrid) at my pad...Fricase de Pollo, Tortilla Espanola, frijoles negros con arroz blanco, etc. I must have had too much wine because I forgot to add the capers and tomato's lol...was quite tasty nevertheless.
BTW: A special thanks to gordeaux for recommending The Tamale Hut on Cermak in North Riverside! I picked up a tamale sampler bag the other day for my date. I took a large bag to my parents home in New Orleans for the Jazz Fest too!!!! They were a big hit! My only complaint is that they were expensive at $1.69 to $1.99 each...my bill was $120.00 @#X*#@#X*##! YIKES!!
