Downtown Atlantic - New Year's Eve Prix Fixe Report

After reading raves about Downtown Atlantic on this board, we booked a table last night for their New Year's eve five course, $49.99 per person prix fixe.

What a Deal!!!!!

The dinner started off with jumbo shrimp cocktail accompanied by a basket of their warm peasant bread. The shrimp were tasty and juicy, not the overcooked, water-logged mush often served at restaurants. The next course was a goat cheese salad, followed by a sorbet intermezzo.

The main course consisted of rack of lamb, filet mignon, or sea bass in a lobster sauce. We both had the rack of lamb and it was excellent and the portion generous (six rib chops). Equally important is that it was served medium rare as requested, with the chops glistening a beautiful pink hue. The lamb came with mashed potatoes and grilled veggies.

Unbelievably, the prix fixe included unlimited pours of wine or beer. We enjoyed (too many!) glasses of Penfolds Rawson's Retreat Shiraz-Cabernet, which was perfect with the lamb.

For dessert we ordered their chocolate cheesecake and a white chocolate mousse cupcake and two cups of their bracing coffee.

Service was accommodating, with my water glass never going less than half full and the waitress keeping both of our wine glasses topped off!

We will be back to this restaurant often and HIGHLY recommend it to others who enjoy this type of fresh, well prepared fare.
