I finally got a chance (today) to visit Yeah Shanghai Deluxe (on Bayard Street, directly across from New Green Bo), and thus sample two of their "Chef's Specialties":
1) The "Roast Chicken Northern China Style" was, as described in the window-posted reviews, shredded skinless chicken that much resembled southern pulled pork, cooked and then loosely covered with an (easily removable) "one-piece umbrella" of the chicken's skin. A thin, brown, seemingly soy-based sauce was served on the side. Although this dish was very creatively presented, it was actually quite simply flavored and therefore, while perfectly decent, not particularly memorable.
2) The "Pork Shoulder in Honey Sauce" was actually quite good, assuming one is prepared for the rather sweet sauce. The amount of pork served was extremely generous, and once the (easily removable) large amount of fat was pulled off, there was a LOT of succulent meat remaining. Again, assuming one is prepared for the sweetness, this dish is definitely a keeper.
I'm looking forward to returning for several more of the "Chef's Specialties".
