So, I would have liked to report today on an omakase meal with wine/sake pairings at JB, but no such luck.
I showed up with my two friends right on time for a 9pm reservation last night, which I made a month ago, and confirmed on Monday. We were told that there had been "a problem" with the sushi bar seating, and we would be put at a big table "facing" the sushi bar. After all I've read on this board, I was not interested in a table- which is why I waited a month for this reservation. We said we weren't interested in a table, and the woman tried to convince us it was the "exact same menu." She has to know it's not the same experience though. After that all she could say was sorry. We made another reservation for next week, and ended up having a satisfying dinner at the bar at Babbo.
I have to say, though, that I'm not sure I'll go back to JB next week- last night really soured me. If there was such a problem, couldn't they at least tell us what it was- or call me before we arrivewd (they had my number)? There was also no offer of seating us later in the night.
We could see a party of three or four spread out at the sushi bar. Our only guess is that one of them was a vip of some kind.
What are your thoughts? What should we have done? What should they have done? I was really excited to eat there....
