After eating some wonderful food at the China Pearl in Chinatown, I decided to try the China Pearl in Woburn, but was quite disappointed. When I walked in, the decor was decidedly bad suburban American Chinese. Several intoxicated barflys were making a noisy ruckus at the bar.
As far as the food was concerned, the beef chow fun had tender, tasty strips of beef, but was so oily as to be nearly inedible. The special Cantonese chicken again was oily and the white meat dry and overcooked. They served fried shrimp chips, which I typically love for their light, crispy texture. They were obviously fried in oil that was not fresh, which gave them an off-flavor, and they were overly greasy and heavy.
All in all, a disappointing meal. Has anyone else had a better experience there? If so, can you recommend some dishes to try?
